The Rosedale Kitchen
The Brief
A kitchen the house had outgrown.
The Whitfields bought their 1920s Rosedale house for the bones and the street, and tolerated the kitchen for six years: a narrow galley layout closed off from the rest of the main floor, with cabinetry from a 1990s renovation that had never quite suited the house around it. They wanted a kitchen that opened toward the family room without losing the sense of a distinct, considered room.
We removed a non-structural wall, rerouted mechanical and electrical through the ceiling cavity, and rebuilt the layout around a nine-foot waterfall island in Calacatta marble. White oak cabinetry with brass hardware carries the warmth the marble alone wouldn't, and a full-height marble hood anchors the range wall as the room's one dramatic gesture.
Room by room.
“Halden & Co. asked questions we hadn't thought to ask ourselves. Eight months later, the house makes more sense than we ever imagined it could.”Amara & Ben Whitfield - Homeowners
