The Kingsway Renewal
A house that had stopped fitting a growing family.
The Okafor-Bianchi family had outgrown their Kingsway house room by room: a chopped-up main floor, a dark kitchen facing the neighbour's fence, and nowhere for three kids and two working-from-home parents to coexist without negotiating the dining table. Rather than move, they chose to rebuild the main floor around a new rear addition and let the whole house catch up to how they actually live now.
Over 38 weeks, we opened the main floor to a single vaulted, skylit volume, added a two-storey rear addition for a new kitchen and primary suite above it, and re-ran every mechanical, electrical, and insulation system in the house. The family stayed in a rental four blocks away for the structural phase and moved back for the final finishing stretch.
Room by room.
